The Galaxy A17 5G is not a flagship, and Samsung does not pretend it is. It is one of the most-bought phones in the United States anyway, which is why it sits high in our library. This page explains what you actually need to know about its cable, charger and screen, using Samsung’s own documents and a few outside sources. Every figure is traced to a source listed at the bottom of the page.

Two blanks in the table are deliberate. The USB spec row is empty because we could only find a USB version on Samsung’s UK page for the international model, and we do not apply it to the US model without checking. Wireless charging is empty because Samsung says the phone does not support it.
Where does the Galaxy A17 5G fit?
Samsung’s US announcement is dated December 30, 2025. It says the Galaxy A17 5G would be available nationwide from January 7, 2026 for $199.99, at carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile and Verizon, as well as Samsung Experience Stores and retailers. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, plus support for a memory card of up to 2TB. It is still listed on Samsung’s current US smartphone page alongside the A57 5G, A37 5G and A27 5G.
On colors, Samsung’s sources do not quite agree: the US product page mentions Black and Light Blue, while the launch announcement lists Black, Blue and Gray. Check the retailer you plan to buy from.
Sales data shows why people choose it. A report on Counterpoint Research’s tracker puts it fourth in the US in Q2 2026 with a 9% share, behind three iPhone 17 models, and Counterpoint’s global list for the same quarter has it sixth. Read more about the maker on the Samsung hub.
What cable does the Galaxy A17 5G use?
The phone uses USB Type-C. Samsung’s support page for A17 accessories tells owners to use the supplied USB Type-C charger cable, and Samsung’s UK product page lists the USB interface as USB Type-C. Our USB-C explainer covers what the USB Implementers Forum says about the connector: it is slim and reversible, so there is no wrong way up.
Whether a cable carries data quickly is a different question from whether it fits. Speed is set by the USB version of the phone, the cable and whatever is on the other end, and the USB-IF says USB products run at the lowest common speed. The speed guide lists the official tiers. If you are replacing a cable, our cable buying safety page explains how to spot certified products. Samsung’s own advice on its support pages is to use Samsung-approved charging devices, and that using other accessories may invalidate your warranty and cause damage.
What charger does the Galaxy A17 5G need?
Wired. Samsung says the phone supports 25W Super Fast Charging and that its 5,000mAh battery can recharge up to 50% in 30 minutes with it. Samsung’s page for its 25W power adapter describes Super Fast Charging as Samsung’s charging method based on USB Power Delivery 3.0, and lists the adapter as supporting PD 3.0 PPS at up to 25W. Our pages on PPS and Samsung Super Fast Charging and USB Power Delivery explain those terms.
The key practical point is that no adapter comes with the phone. Samsung says to use the supplied USB Type-C charger cable with a wall adapter, which is not included. So you either reuse an adapter you own or buy one. Samsung’s own fast-charging guide says Super Fast Charging needs a 25W or 45W Samsung-approved adapter on select devices, that devices pick the best speed they support when plugged into a higher-rated charger, and that you should plug the adapter into a wall outlet rather than a computer for the fastest charging. For other figures see the wattage guide, and for a checklist read which charger is safe for my phone.
Choosing an adapter. Because the box has no adapter, it helps to know what Samsung’s own 25W model offers. Samsung’s product page lists Super Fast Charging at up to 25W, PD 3.0 PPS at up to 25W, and standby power below 5mW. It also advises using authentic Samsung cables for the best results. The USB-IF says certified USB Fast Chargers are backwards compatible with devices that support USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery, while Samsung’s own guidance is to stay with Samsung-approved accessories.
Wireless. There is none. Samsung’s support page says in plain words that the Galaxy A17 5G does not support Wireless Charging or Wireless PowerShare. That means Qi and Qi2 chargers and MagSafe pads will not charge it. If wireless charging matters, look elsewhere in the phone library.
The screen, explained
The A17 5G has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Samsung says the measured diagonal is 6.7 inches across the full rectangle and 6.5 inches once the rounded corners and camera cutout are accounted for.
Samsung explains that AMOLED stands for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes and is a type of OLED screen technology, in which each pixel makes its own light. Our OLED explainer covers how that differs from LCD. Super AMOLED is one of Samsung’s AMOLED variants. The “up to 90Hz” wording means the refresh rate can vary; the refresh rate guide explains what 90Hz and 120Hz mean. Samsung’s pages for this phone do not describe an LTPO panel, so we do not.
The front glass is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, according to Samsung’s announcement.
Performance, cameras and battery
The phone runs on the Exynos 1330 processor, which Samsung describes as delivering a smooth experience for HD streaming and gaming. The US product page mentions a 2.4 GHz octa-core processor. Samsung lists 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and Wi-Fi 5 with 5G on sub-6GHz bands.
The camera system has a 50MP main camera (f/1.8, with autofocus and optical image stabilization), a 5MP ultra-wide, a 2MP macro and a 13MP selfie camera. Video tops out at 1080p at 30fps in Samsung’s specification table. Samsung says the optical stabilization is new for this model and helps with blur-free video and low-light shots.
The battery is 5,000mAh. Samsung does not give a hours-of-use figure on the pages we checked, so we do not either.
Build, durability and software
The phone measures 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.5 mm and weighs 192 grams. Samsung lists a glass fiber reinforced polymer back and a plastic frame, with IP54 protection against dust and splashes. Samsung’s footnote says water resistance is based on lab tests with splashes of fresh water and is not advised for beach or pool use.
On software, Samsung promises 6 OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates, counted from the date of global manufacture, which Samsung gives as Q3 2025. It adds that the update policy is subject to change. The phone includes Gemini and Circle to Search.
Repair overview
iFixit has a device page for the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G that covers repair, disassembly and troubleshooting information. When we checked, it listed no repair guides and no repairability score, so we show none and link only to the device page. We never copy iFixit’s text.
Read our repair overview for the Galaxy A17 5G, battery replacement basics, screen replacement basics and how to read repairability scores. The battery page is based on Apple’s guidance, since we have not yet found a Samsung equivalent; the safety principles around lithium-ion batteries still apply.
