Qi2 and Qi2 25W Explained
Qi2 is the version of wireless charging that snaps into place. This page explains what changed from plain Qi, how fast Qi2 25W is, and which phones in our library list it.
What is Qi2?
Qi2 is the Magnetic Power Profile of Qi v2.0. Wikipedia says Qi v2.0 arrived in April 2023, that the profile is based on Apple’s MagSafe, and that devices implementing it use a new logo, “Qi2” in a circle. The Wireless Power Consortium describes Qi2 as the magnetic power profile version of the standard, with faster charging and greater convenience.
What changed from plain Qi?
Qi2 devices use magnetic attachment that aligns the phone and charger. The WPC says that gives improved energy efficiency, faster charging and easier use, and that Qi2 devices avoid wear on cables and charging ports. Alignment matters because Wikipedia cites research that misalignment of more than 3 cm can severely lower power transfer in plain wireless charging; see Qi basics.
How fast is Qi2 25W?
| Version | Published figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Qi2 | 15W | WPC |
| Qi2 25W (Qi v2.2.1), launched July 2025 | Nearly 70% more power than Qi2 | WPC |
| Qi2 25W, charge time | 0 to 50% in about 30 minutes | WPC |
The 30-minute figure is a standard-body number; real results vary with the phone and charger.
Which phones list Qi2?
Nineteen phone pages in our library list Qi2. Apple lists Qi2 wireless charging up to 25W on the iPhone 17, and its iPhone 13 specification page lists Qi2 up to 15W, which we report as Apple lists it. The Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold are labelled Qi2 in our library. Samsung’s pages that we read do not state Qi2 for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, so that page lists Qi only. Check each page for its wattage.
How does Qi2 relate to MagSafe?
Wikipedia says Qi2 is based on MagSafe, which Apple announced on October 13, 2020 with the iPhone 12 series. Apple’s MagSafe charger page covers its own chargers and the adapters they need, and the wattage guide collects every figure.
