If you want a Pro iPhone without the bulk of the biggest model, the iPhone 17 Pro is the one to read about. This page gathers Apple’s documented facts about it, explains what they mean for the cable and charger you will need, and points out where it differs from the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the standard iPhone 17. Every figure is traced to a source listed at the bottom.

The wired charging row is empty on purpose. Apple’s figure is a fast-charge claim tied to an adapter, not a maximum wattage, and we do not guess one.
Where does the iPhone 17 Pro fit?
Apple introduced the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in the same announcement, and said pre-orders would begin Friday, September 12, 2025 with availability beginning Friday, September 19. The US launch price for the Pro was $1,099, with storage of 256GB, 512GB or 1TB; Apple says 256GB is double the entry storage of the previous generation. The finishes are silver, cosmic orange and deep blue.
Sales rankings show how it is used. Counterpoint Research’s tracker puts the iPhone 17 Pro third worldwide in Q1 2026, following the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a report on US sales gives it third place with a 10% share in Q2 2026. That is why it ranks third in our library. The Apple hub lists the rest of the lineup.
Apple’s main iPhone lineup page now lists the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone 16, and no longer lists this model, so we mark it as discontinued. Carriers and retailers may still stock it, and Apple still lists it on its compare page. If you own one, nothing about the cable or charger information below changes.
What cable does the iPhone 17 Pro use?
The Pro has a single USB-C connector. Apple’s specifications list charging, DisplayPort and USB 3 at up to 10Gb/s. Compare that with the standard iPhone 17, where Apple lists USB 2 at up to 480 Mb/s: the Pro’s data path is the faster of the two.
What does 10Gb/s mean in practice? It is the middle tier of USB 3.2, which the USB-IF defines at 5, 10 and 20 Gb/s, and our USB speed guide explains the names. The USB-IF also says USB products run at the lowest common speed, so a cable that cannot do 10Gb/s limits the link. Apple says the box cable supports fast charging and works with USB-C adapters and computer ports; it does not call it a 10Gb/s data cable. For faster transfers, buy a cable made for it, and see cable buying safety and the USB-C explainer.
What charger does the iPhone 17 Pro need?
Wired. Apple says the iPhone 17 Pro is fast-charge capable: up to 50% in 20 minutes with a 40W adapter or higher and a USB-C charging cable, sold separately. The box has no adapter, so you need one. Our wattage guide lists published figures and USB Power Delivery explains the standard that USB-C adapters use.
MagSafe. Apple lists MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W. Its MagSafe page lists the iPhone 17 Pro among models that reach 25W with a 30W or greater adapter rated 15V/2.0A or higher. Apple’s fast-charge claim for this setup is up to 50% in 30 minutes. Plug the charger in before placing the phone, so MagSafe can verify it is safe to deliver maximum power.
Qi2. Apple also lists Qi2 wireless charging up to 25W; see Qi2 explained and our wireless charger guide. The Wireless Power Consortium says only Qi Certified products can show the Qi or Qi2 logo.
With accessories connected. Apple says MagSafe charging is limited to 10W while USB-C or Lightning accessories such as headphones are connected to an iPhone 17 Pro. Read which charger is safe for my phone for a short checklist.
The screen, explained
The iPhone 17 Pro has a 6.3-inch all-screen OLED display, branded Super Retina XDR, at 2622-by-1206 pixels and 460 ppi. It includes Dynamic Island, an Always-On display and ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. Apple lists 1000 nits typical maximum brightness, 1600 nits peak for HDR and 3000 nits peak outdoors, plus a typical 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Measured as a rectangle, Apple says the screen is 6.27 inches diagonally because of the rounded corners.
In an OLED panel every pixel makes its own light, which is why blacks can be deep; see OLED explained. The adaptive refresh range lets the screen slow down when little is moving; the refresh rate guide covers it. Apple does not say LTPO on the pages we checked, so we label the panel plain OLED; see LTPO OLED.
Apple says the Ceramic Shield 2 front has 3x better scratch resistance than the previous generation, and Ceramic Shield now protects the back too.
Performance, cameras and battery
The A19 Pro chip has a 6-core CPU (2 performance and 4 efficiency cores), a 6-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple’s announcement says that with the new vapor chamber it delivers up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the previous generation.
The cameras are a 48MP Pro Fusion system: a 48MP Fusion Main (24 mm, f/1.78), a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide (13 mm, f/2.2) and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto (100 mm, 4x, f/2.8). Apple lists 8x optical-quality zoom in, 2x optical zoom out and a 16x optical-quality zoom range, with digital zoom up to 40x. The 18MP front camera uses Center Stage.
Apple lists up to 33 hours of video playback and up to 30 hours of streamed video. The announcement also says eSIM-only models, which include the US model, have a larger battery with two extra hours of video playback.
Build and durability
The iPhone 17 Pro has an aluminum unibody with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back. It is rated IP68, with a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC standard 60529. It measures 150.0 mm tall, 71.9 mm wide and 8.75 mm deep, and weighs 206 grams. It supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, 5G and dual eSIM, and does not work with physical SIM cards.
What is in the box
Apple’s specifications say the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max do not include a power adapter or EarPods. The box holds the iPhone, a USB-C charge cable that Apple says supports fast charging and works with USB-C power adapters and computer ports, and documentation. Apple’s own accessory announcement lists a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max and a Qi2 25W-certified MagSafe Charger as separate purchases, which tells you which two items most buyers add. If you already own a USB-C adapter rated 40W or higher, the fast-charge claim of up to 50% in 20 minutes applies to it too; check the wattage printed on the adapter, and read our charger buying guide before you buy a new one. Apple also lists dual eSIM and says the phone is not compatible with physical SIM cards, so there is no SIM card or tray to look for in the box.
Repair overview
iFixit has a device page for the iPhone 17 Pro, which describes it as released on September 19, 2025. When we checked it showed no repairability score, so we show none and link only to the device page. We do not copy iFixit’s guides.
