The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the middle model of the three new Samsung foldables, and Samsung stresses weight and screen shape over raw specifications. This page collects Samsung’s documented facts for it, explains what they mean for the cable and charger you buy, and compares it with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Every figure is traced to a source listed at the bottom of the page.

Three blanks are deliberate. The USB spec row is empty because we found no USB version for the US model. The wired charging row is empty because Samsung gives a charging time with a 45W adapter, not a maximum wattage. The size row shows the 7.6-inch main screen.
Where does the Galaxy Z Fold8 fit?
Samsung’s US announcement introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 together, with general availability from August 7, 2026. The Fold8 starts at $1,899.99 with 256GB, 512GB and 1TB of storage. Colors are Lavender, Graphite and Cream, with Pistachio sold online on Samsung.com; availability varies by retailer or carrier.
We could not find the Fold8 in the sales rankings we cite, so it ranks nineteenth in our library as part of Samsung’s current lineup, listed on its US smartphone page. See the Samsung hub for the full family.
What cable does the Galaxy Z Fold8 use?
Samsung’s specification table ties the phone’s wired charging claim to a 45W adapter and a 3A USB-C cable, so it charges over USB-C. Our USB-C explainer covers the connector. Samsung’s pages did not give a USB data version, so we state no data speed; the USB speed guide explains the general tiers, and cable buying safety covers how to pick a replacement.
What charger does the Galaxy Z Fold8 need?
Wired. Samsung lists up to 63% charge in around 30 minutes with a 45W adapter and a 3A USB-C cable, from internal lab tests at 0% with all services, features and the screen off, and says the 45W Power Adapter is sold separately and to use only Samsung-approved chargers and cables. Wired charging is compatible with QC2.0 and AFC. Samsung’s 45W adapter page lists Super Fast Charging 2.0 with PD 3.0 PPS support; see PPS and Samsung Super Fast Charging and the wattage guide.
Wireless. Samsung lists Fast Wireless Charging with 20W, compatible with WPC, and Wireless PowerShare. See Qi explained and the wireless charger guide. For a checklist, read which charger is safe for my phone.
The screens, explained
The main screen is 7.6 inches, QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 1,848 x 2,448 and 403 ppi, with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that runs from 1 to 120Hz and Vision Booster. The cover screen is 5.5 inches, FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 1,248 x 1,972 and 428 ppi, with the same 1 to 120Hz range. Samsung says the main screen reaches up to 3,000 nits of brightness with a low-reflection display finish.
Samsung’s announcement says the display ratios are designed around the way people naturally consume content, so the cover screen suits quick tasks such as messaging and short-form video and the unfolded screen suits games and films. Samsung’s Flex Titanium structure, which it says makes foldables thinner while keeping durability, applies across the new Z series. Samsung describes AMOLED as a type of OLED, which we explain in OLED explained; see the refresh rate guide for the 1 to 120Hz range. Samsung does not use the term LTPO for this phone on the pages we checked; see LTPO OLED.
Performance, cameras and battery
The phone has the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and a 4,800 mAh typical dual battery; Samsung’s announcement calls it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet and says it pairs the chip with a larger battery. Memory is 12GB of RAM for the 256GB and 512GB models and 16GB for 1TB.
Samsung’s announcement highlights dual 50MP cameras for consistent high-resolution detail across wide and ultra-wide views. The table lists a 50MP wide (OIS, f/1.8), a 50MP ultra-wide (f/1.9, 120-degree field of view), 2x optical-quality zoom, 10x digital zoom and video up to 8K at 30 fps. There are two 10MP selfie cameras, on the main and cover screens.
Build, size and durability
Unfolded, the Fold8 measures 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5 mm, and folded 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7 mm, and weighs 201 grams. Samsung lists Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the cover, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear and an Armor Aluminum frame. It is rated IP48, based on lab conditions for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes; Samsung says to rinse residue and dry if wet, not to use it at the beach or pool, and that water resistance is not permanent. It runs Android 17 with One UI 9, supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, and takes a SIM plus an eSIM.
Software and AI features Samsung highlights
The Galaxy Z Fold8 runs Android 17 with One UI 9. Samsung’s announcement says its display ratios and software are designed for the way people use a foldable: quick checks on the cover screen and longer sessions unfolded. It describes Now Nudge, which can surface next steps such as checking a schedule or saving a location and lets you continue the conversation side by side on larger displays, and Now Brief, which gives personalized briefing cards. Samsung says Gemini Intelligence app automation works across more than 40 supported apps and services, and describes a new AI Assistant Activity dashboard that shows the AI automations running on your behalf. It also lists enhanced Privacy Alerts and Knox Vault, a tamper-resistant physical layer for sensitive information. These are Samsung’s own descriptions, and some features need a Samsung account or a network connection.
How it compares with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
The Fold8 Ultra is the bigger, pricier sibling. It has an 8.0-inch main screen against 7.6 inches, a 6.5-inch cover screen against 5.5 inches, a 5,000 mAh battery against 4,800 mAh and a 200MP main camera plus a 3x telephoto where the Fold8 has dual 50MP cameras and no telephoto. Samsung lists up to 67% in 30 minutes for the Ultra against 63% here, and the Ultra weighs 215 grams against 201 grams and costs $2,099.99 against $1,899.99. The two share the chip, 20W wireless charging and IP48.
What is in the box
Samsung’s table says the 45W Power Adapter is sold separately; we found no US page listing the full box contents for this model, so we say only that no adapter is listed as included.
How to read Samsung’s battery and charging numbers
Samsung’s footnotes explain how to read the figures for the Galaxy Z Fold8. The 4,800 mAh battery capacity is a typical value tested under third-party laboratory conditions, an estimated average that accounts for variation between battery samples tested under the IEC 61960 standard, and Samsung gives a rated (minimum) capacity of 4,660 mAh. Its charging figure of up to 63% in around 30 minutes comes from internal Samsung lab tests with a 45W travel adapter on a phone at 0% with all services, features and the screen off, so a phone in use will charge more slowly. Samsung also says actual battery life varies with network environment, usage patterns and other factors, so treat every number as a comparison between phones, not a promise for your day.
Repair overview
iFixit has a device page for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, which describes it as released in 2026. When we checked it listed no repairability score and no repair guides, so we show none. We never copy iFixit’s text.

Samsung’s announcement describes Samsung Care+ with unlimited repairs for accidental damage as an option. Our battery page cites Apple’s guidance because we have not yet found a Samsung equivalent.
