Where does the Galaxy Z Flip8 fit?
Samsung’s US announcement introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 together, with general availability from August 7, 2026. The Flip8 starts at $1,199.99 with 256GB and 512GB of storage, the lowest price of the three. Colors are Pink, Graphite and Cream, with Mint sold online on Samsung.com, and availability varies by retailer or carrier.
We could not find the Flip8 in the sales rankings we cite, so it ranks twentieth in our library as part of Samsung’s current lineup, which Samsung lists on its US smartphone page. See the Samsung hub for the full family, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
What cable does the Galaxy Z Flip8 use?
Samsung’s specification table ties the phone’s wired charging claim to a 25W adapter and a 3A USB-C cable, so it charges over USB-C. Our USB-C explainer covers the connector: slim, reversible and defined by the USB-IF. Samsung’s pages did not give a USB data version, so we state no data speed; the USB speed guide explains the general tiers. See cable buying safety for how to choose a replacement.
What charger does the Galaxy Z Flip8 need?
Wired. Samsung lists up to 55% charge in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter and a 3A USB-C cable, from internal lab tests with a 25W travel adapter at 0% with all services, features and the screen off. It says the 25W Power Adapter is sold separately and to use only Samsung-approved chargers and cables, and that wired charging is compatible with QC2.0 and AFC. Samsung’s page for its 25W adapter describes Super Fast Charging as a method based on USB Power Delivery 3.0 with PD 3.0 PPS support at up to 25W; see PPS and Samsung Super Fast Charging, USB Power Delivery and the wattage guide.
Wireless. Samsung lists Fast Wireless Charging with 15W, compatible with WPC, and Wireless PowerShare. See Qi explained and the wireless charger guide. For a checklist, read which charger is safe for my phone.
The screens, explained
The main screen is 6.9 inches, FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 1080 x 2520 and 400 ppi, with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that runs from 1 to 120Hz and Vision Booster. Samsung says the 6.9-inch figure is measured on the full rectangle and the screen is 6.8 inches with the rounded corners and camera hole accounted for. The cover screen is 4.1 inches, HD+ Super AMOLED at 948 x 1048 and 342 ppi, with a 60/120Hz refresh rate.
Samsung’s announcement says its Flex Titanium structure, a titanium-based display structure, makes foldables thinner while keeping durability across the new Z series. It also describes the FlexWindow cover screen as a place to complete connected actions through the side key or natural voice requests. Samsung describes AMOLED as a type of OLED, which we explain in OLED explained; see the refresh rate guide. Samsung does not use the term LTPO for this phone on the pages we checked; see LTPO OLED.
Performance, cameras and battery
The phone has the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM, and a 4,300 mAh typical dual battery. The camera system is a 50MP wide (OIS, f/1.8, 2x optical-quality zoom) and a 12MP ultra-wide (f/2.2, 123-degree field of view), with video up to 4K at 60 fps and a 10MP selfie camera. Samsung’s announcement highlights flexible shooting angles, real-time previews and hands-free shooting as part of its Flip camera experience.
Build, size and durability
Unfolded, the Flip8 measures 166.9 x 75.4 x 6.1 mm, and folded 85.7 x 75.4 x 13.1 mm, and weighs 180 grams. Samsung lists Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the cover, a glass fiber-reinforced polymer rear and an Armor Aluminum frame. It is rated IP48, based on lab conditions for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes; Samsung says to rinse residue and dry if wet, not to use it at the beach or pool, and that water resistance is not permanent. It runs Android 17 with One UI 9, supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and takes a SIM plus an eSIM.
Software and AI features Samsung highlights
The Galaxy Z Flip8 runs Android 17 with One UI 9. Samsung’s announcement says Galaxy AI now works across more apps and services, and that the Flip’s FlexWindow cover screen lets you complete connected actions through side-key activation or natural voice requests, so some tasks do not need the phone unfolded. It describes Now Brief with personalized briefing cards, Now Nudge suggestions such as checking a schedule, and Gemini Intelligence app automation across more than 40 supported apps and services. Samsung also lists a new AI Assistant Activity dashboard in One UI 9, enhanced Privacy Alerts and Knox Vault, a tamper-resistant physical layer for sensitive information. These are Samsung’s own descriptions, and some features need a Samsung account or a network connection.
How it compares with the Galaxy Z Fold8
Samsung’s table lets you put the Galaxy Z Fold8 beside it. The Fold8 has a 7.6-inch main screen against 6.9 inches, a 4,800 mAh battery against 4,300 mAh, a 45W adapter claim of up to 63% in 30 minutes against 25W and 55%, and 20W wireless charging against 15W. The Flip8 weighs 180 grams against 201 grams, folds to a compact 85.7 mm tall, and launched at $1,199.99 against $1,899.99. Both share the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and IP48.
What is in the box
Samsung’s table says the 25W Power Adapter is sold separately and to use only Samsung-approved chargers and cables; we found no US page listing the full box contents for this model, so we say only that no adapter is listed as included.
How to read Samsung’s battery and charging numbers
Samsung’s footnotes explain how to read the figures for the Galaxy Z Flip8. The 4,300 mAh battery capacity is a typical value tested under third-party laboratory conditions, an estimated average that accounts for variation between battery samples tested under the IEC 61960 standard, and Samsung gives a rated (minimum) capacity of 4,174 mAh. Its charging figure of up to 55% in around 30 minutes comes from internal Samsung lab tests with a 25W travel adapter on a phone at 0% with all services, features and the screen off, so a phone in use will charge more slowly. Samsung also says actual battery life varies with network environment, usage patterns and other factors, so treat every number as a comparison between phones, not a promise for your day.
Repair overview
iFixit has a device page for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8, which describes it as released in 2026. When we checked it listed no repairability score and no repair guides, so we show none. We never copy iFixit’s text.

Samsung’s announcement describes Samsung Care+ with unlimited repairs for accidental damage as an option. Our battery page cites Apple’s guidance because we have not yet found a Samsung equivalent.
