The iPhone 16 Pro was the third best-selling phone in the world in 2025, according to Counterpoint Research, so it is still very common. This page collects Apple’s documented specifications and iFixit’s repair information, and explains what they mean for the cable and charger you buy. Every figure is traced to a source listed at the bottom of the page.

The wired charging row is blank on purpose: Apple publishes a fast-charge claim tied to an adapter, not a maximum wattage.

Where does the iPhone 16 Pro fit?

Apple introduced the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max on September 9, 2024, with pre-orders from Friday, September 13 and availability from Friday, September 20. The iPhone 16 Pro started at $999 in the US, with storage from 128GB up to 1TB, in black, natural, white and desert titanium finishes. It has a 6.3-inch display against 6.9 inches on the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Counterpoint Research’s full-year 2025 ranking, reported by AppleInsider, places it third, after the iPhone 16 and the Pro Max. It is not listed on Apple’s main iPhone lineup page any more, which now shows the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone 16, so we mark it as discontinued; carriers and retailers may still stock it. See the Apple hub for current models, including the iPhone 17 Pro.

What cable does the iPhone 16 Pro use?

The iPhone 16 Pro has one USB-C connector. Apple’s specifications list charging, DisplayPort and USB 3 data transfer at up to 10Gb/s, the middle tier of USB 3.2 as defined by the USB-IF (5, 10 and 20 Gb/s). See USB 2.0 vs USB 3.x. The standard iPhone 16 is listed at USB 2, 480Mb/s, so the Pro is the one to get if you move big files by cable.

The USB-IF says USB products run at the lowest common speed, so the cable has to be up to the job too. Apple says the box cable supports fast charging and works with USB-C adapters and computer ports, but it does not call it a 10Gb/s data cable. Read cable buying safety before buying one, and see the USB-C explainer for the connector. If you still use Lightning accessories, our Lightning page summarizes what Apple says about its adapter.

What charger does the iPhone 16 Pro need?

Wired. Apple says up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes with a 20W adapter or higher paired with a USB-C charging cable, or with a 30W adapter or higher and a MagSafe Charger. No adapter is included. See the wattage guide and USB Power Delivery.

MagSafe. Apple’s specification page lists MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W with a 30W adapter or higher. Apple’s MagSafe page is more specific for this model: the iPhone 16 Pro achieves 22.5W peak power, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max reaches 25W. The table shows Apple’s headline and the text follows the more specific figure.

Qi2 and Qi. Apple lists Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W and Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W; see Qi2 explained, Qi explained and the wireless charger guide.

Accessories connected. Apple says MagSafe charging is limited to 7.5W while USB-C or Lightning accessories are connected. For a checklist, read which charger is safe for my phone.

The screen, explained

The iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch all-screen OLED display, branded Super Retina XDR, at 2622-by-1206 pixels and 460 ppi, with Dynamic Island, an Always-On display and ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. Apple lists 1000 nits typical maximum brightness, 1600 nits peak for HDR and 2000 nits peak outdoors. Measured as a rectangle, Apple says the screen is 6.27 inches diagonally.

OLED means each pixel makes its own light; see OLED explained. The adaptive range lets the screen slow down when little is moving; the refresh rate guide covers it. Apple does not use the term LTPO on the pages we checked; see LTPO OLED for the related technology.

Performance, cameras and battery

The A18 Pro chip has a new 6-core CPU (2 performance and 4 efficiency cores), a new 6-core GPU and a new 16-core Neural Engine, according to Apple.

The cameras are a 48MP Fusion main camera (24 mm, f/1.78, second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization), a 48MP Ultra Wide (13 mm, f/2.2, 120-degree field of view) and a 12MP 5x Telephoto (120 mm, f/2.8). Apple lists 5x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out and a 10x optical zoom range, with digital zoom up to 25x, plus Camera Control.

For battery life Apple lists up to 27 hours of video playback, up to 22 hours of streamed video and up to 85 hours of audio playback. These are manufacturer figures.

Build and durability

The phone has a titanium design with the latest-generation Ceramic Shield front and a textured matte glass back. It is rated IP68, with a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC standard 60529. It measures 5.89 inches tall, 2.81 inches wide and 0.32 inches deep and weighs 199 grams. It supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, 5G on sub-6 GHz and mmWave bands and dual eSIM.

How it compares with the iPhone 17 Pro

Set the iPhone 17 Pro beside this phone and Apple’s documents show a steady step up. Both have a 6.3-inch OLED display with ProMotion up to 120Hz and a USB-C port listed at USB 3 and up to 10Gb/s. The 17 Pro moves to the A19 Pro chip from the A18 Pro, starts at 256GB rather than 128GB, lists up to 33 hours of video playback against 27 hours, and uses an aluminum unibody with an Apple-designed vapor chamber where the 16 Pro uses titanium. Apple lists Qi2 up to 25W on the 17 Pro against 15W here, and the 17 Pro launched at $1,099 against $999.

For the telephoto camera, Apple lists a 12MP 5x telephoto on the 16 Pro and a 48MP 4x telephoto with an 8x optical-quality option on the 17 Pro. For charging, the wired fast-charge claim is the same shape in both: up to 50% in around 30 minutes for the 16 Pro with a 20W adapter, against up to 50% in 20 minutes with a 40W adapter for the 17 Pro.

What is in the box

Apple’s specifications list the iPhone 16 Pro, a 1 m USB-C charge cable and documentation. Apple says the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max do not include a power adapter or EarPods, and encourages you to use any compatible USB-C power adapter. The cable supports fast charging and works with USB-C power adapters and computer ports. Apple also lists dual eSIM, so there is no SIM card to find in the box.

Repair overview

iFixit’s device page for the iPhone 16 Pro shows a repairability score of 7 out of 10. iFixit lists guides including battery removal and back glass removal. We link to them and never copy iFixit’s text. iFixit’s score page for this phone says the design prioritizes screen repairs and gives access to all other parts through the back glass, that screws and clips aid reassembly, and flags four different screw types and continued reliance on adhesives as complications.

Read our repair overview for the iPhone 16 Pro, battery replacement basics, screen replacement basics and how to read repairability scores. Apple says a professional provider using genuine parts is the safest route for most battery repairs.

Who should buy it, and who might skip it

Facts that help you decide:

  • You want a Pro phone in a smaller body. It is 6.3 inches and 199 grams, against 6.9 inches and 227 grams for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
  • You move large files over a cable. Apple lists USB 3 up to 10Gb/s.
  • You want repair information. iFixit scores it 7 out of 10.
  • You want a charger included. None is in the box; budget for a 30W adapter if you use MagSafe.
  • You want Apple to still sell it. It is not on Apple’s main lineup page; look to the iPhone 17 Pro or newer.
